Controlled light diffusion

Black Mist works by deliberately diffusing part of the light. Highlights become softer, contrast is gently reduced and bright practical lights develop a smooth glow. The optical effect is captured in-camera rather than being created only in post-production.

Black Mist 1/2 – effect strength

The 1/2 version delivers the strongest effect in this series. It diffuses highlights more visibly, lowers contrast and increases glow around bright points, making it ideal for deliberately stylized photography and video.

Portraits and people – softer tonal transitions

1/2 gives a stronger softening effect on highlights and skin, making it well suited to creative beauty, glamour portraits, music videos and romantic or nostalgic visual styles. The effect is clearly visible straight out of camera.

Night scenes and video – glow around light sources

In night scenes, 1/2 creates a stronger glow around light sources and noticeably softens hard contrast. It is a strong creative option for city scenes, concerts, music videos and productions where practical lights are part of the visual mood.

Natural colors with readable detail

The filter is designed to add diffusion without introducing an unwanted color shift. Fine details remain readable and colors stay natural, while the softening effect is concentrated mainly in highlights and contrast.

18 anti-reflective coating layers on each side

High-quality optical glass is coated with18 anti-reflective layers on each side. These coatings help control unwanted reflections and maintain strong image quality alongside the creative diffusion effect.

SR – tempered glass for increased durability

SRtechnology uses reinforced tempered glass with increased resistance to mechanical damage, a practical benefit for outdoor work, travel and intensive filmmaking.

Nano coating – easier maintenance

ANanosurface treatment provides hydrophobic and oleophobic properties together with an antistatic top layer. It helps reduce water, greasy marks, fingerprints and dust while making cleaning easier.

Low-profile aluminum frame

The filter uses a low-profile aluminum-alloy frame. Specially shaped edges improve grip during installation and removal.

For lenses with a 58 mm filter thread

This version is designed for lenses with aØ58 mmfilter thread and can be used with Irix lenses as well as lenses from other brands with the same thread diameter.
