TheIrix Edge 100 Reverse GND8is a 100×150 mm graduated neutral density filter with areverse gradientand a maximum light reduction of3 EV. Its darkest zone is positioned close to the horizon, making it ideal for sunrise and sunset photography when the brightest part of the scene sits just above the horizon.
TheIrix Edge 100 Reverse GND8is a rectangular graduated filter measuring100 × 150 mmdesigned for scenes where the brightest part of the image is located directly above the horizon.
Unlike conventional Hard or Soft GND filters, a Reverse GND places itshighest density around the middle of the gradient. The darkening then gradually decreases towards the top of the filter.

At sunrise or sunset, the brightest area is oftenjust above the horizonrather than high in the sky.
The Reverse GND is designed around this light pattern. Its lower section remains clear, transitions relatively quickly to maximum density, thengradually becomes lighter towards the top.
The Irix Edge Reverse GND8 has an optical density of0.9and reduces light by3 stops (3 EV)in its darkest zone.
This helps control an overexposed bright band near the horizon while leaving the darker foreground largely unaffected.
Reverse GND8 is particularly useful in landscape photography when the strongest light is concentrated close to the horizon.
In these situations, a conventional Hard GND may darken the upper sky too much, while the Reverse design concentrates the strongest reduction where it is most useful.
Without a filter, the camera has to capture a very bright sky around the sun and a much darker foreground at the same time.
Reverse GND8 helps reduce that brightness difference at the moment of capture, preserving more highlight detail and producing a more balanced exposure.
The 100 × 150 mm rectangular format allows the filter to slide up and down in the holder.
This lets you place the darkest part of the gradient exactly over the brightest band of the scene, regardless of where the horizon sits in the composition.
The filter is designed to reduce light without introducing unwanted colour shifts.
Its glass surfaces feature multi-layer anti-reflective coatings that help control unwanted reflections and maintain image quality.
The filter surface also features a coating that increases resistance to water and oily contamination.
This is particularly useful outdoors, where the filter may be exposed to moisture, rain or accidental fingerprints.
The Irix Edge Reverse GND8 measures100 × 150 mmand is compatible with theIrix Edge IFH-100and other suitable 100 mm filter systems.
It can be combined with full ND filters and, in a suitably equipped holder, with a CPL polarizer.
